Herd Health

Pork producers know, the pork industry is competitive and continually evolving at a rapid pace. To drive success, it takes staying ahead of consumer perceptions, trends, and the latest research. You need timely access to accurate data, awareness of new information and techniques as they emerge, and strategy. Resources are essential.

Our veterinarians provide comprehensive consultations for every aspect of swine production, providing practical, science-based solutions and protocols tailored to your farm. We practice with purpose and integrity and strive to provide excellent service to operations of all sizes.

A wall display features a black-and-white photo of a person wearing a hat, leather jacket, and plaid shirt, sitting down and holding a cloth. Above the photo is a sign with the word "SUIDAE," symbolizing herd health, and to the right is a caduceus with a letter "V" beneath it.

We understand that every farm has unique needs and that it takes timely in person consults, at the slat-level, to understand the individual challenges of each farm, implement change, and quickly drive solutions in order to minimize lost production and maximize profitability.

Endemic pathogens and disease outbreaks can decrease production and affect a farms bottom line. To ensure your farm is performing at full potential, it is pivotal to understand the health status of your pigs. Our veterinarians take a preventative care approach and can perform routine disease surveillance testing and offer comprehensive disease prevention strategies to help keep your herd healthy.

When health challenges such as reproductive failure, piglet scours, or increased sow mortality arise, our team is available to offer prompt mitigation for areas of concern and provide comprehensive herd evaluations, rapid diagnostic results, and data driven solutions.

We have extensive knowledge on the transmission, control, and elimination of swine diseases and can provide sound strategies and guide you through a disease elimination strategy that best suits your farm and staff. We have experience with and have designed disease elimination plans for all major diseases impacting the swine industry including PRRS, PED, Influenza, Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, and more.

We are a team of accredited veterinarians trained with a working knowledge of the regulations and legal requirements for transporting animals through intrastate, interstate, and international movements. We can perform regulatory testing, ensure proper identification, and can provide you with health papers (CVI’s) and any other necessary paperwork and documentation needed for movement.

Responsible stewardship of antimicrobials is everyone’s responsibility and we promote this by offering customized vaccination and treatment protocols designed to meet the specific needs of your pigs and production system.

Biosecurity Assessments

Biosecurity is the cornerstone to keeping pigs healthy in today’s industry. Our team adheres to strict biosecurity standards and strict health pyramids to minimize disease transfer between farms. Our veterinarians can develop system-wide biosecurity protocols as well as provide comprehensive audits and assessments of key biosecurity risks:

  • Truck Wash / Trailer Audits
  • Feedmill Audits
  • Sow Farm Biosecurity Audits
  • Nursery and Grow/Finish Site Biosecurity Audits
  • Disease Outbreak Investigations

Ventilation Analysis

Environmental stressors can affect production and impact profitability. Our veterinarians are familiar with all types of animal housing and understand the unique environmental needs of pigs. We can evaluate and troubleshoot your barn and ventilation system and provide solutions to ensure your pigs are getting optimal ventilation and minimized environmental stressors.

Autogenous Vaccines

Pathogens continually emerge and evolve and can be difficult to manage with existing vaccines and techniques. We can create farm-specific autogenous vaccines to provide protection when commercial vaccines aren’t available or are failing to offer the level of protection needed against a particular pathogen.

Herd Profiling

Monitoring pathogen profiles within a herd

  • pathogen distribution map
  • antibody response following vaccination
  • breeding stock antibody levels and piglet maternal antibody levels
  • evaluation of serologic patterns between herds
  • improvement of vaccination programs
