Kim Baker
Veterinarian
Dr. Kim Baker grew up in northern Illinois and first discovered her passion for pigs as an undergraduate at Iowa State University. She earned her B.S. in Animal Science in 2014 and went on to complete both her DVM and M.S. in Veterinary Preventive Medicine at Iowa State in 2020. After graduation, Dr. Baker worked as a staff veterinarian for a large, fully integrated swine production system, where her responsibilities spanned the entire production chain, from semen to shackle. She is especially passionate about improving wean to market livability, biosecurity, mentoring veterinary students, and working hands-on in the field to help pig farmers succeed. She is guided by the principle of always doing what is best for the pig and enjoys finding creative solutions to everyday challenges.
Dr. Baker lives in Morning Sun, Iowa, with her two Brittanys, Mabel and Annie. She raises and trains her Brittanys for pointing dog field trials and hunt tests and is an avid outdoorswoman. When Kim is not in a pig barn, you can often find her following her dogs through short-grass prairies all across the country, hunting, hiking, practicing nature photography, or gardening. A loyal Iowa State Cyclone fan, she enjoys cheering on the Cyclones. “It’s a Cyclone state!”
